Alias E-Mail Addresses

What is an alias email address?

A so-called “alias e-mail address” is a valid e-mail address set up in your domain that does not have its own mailbox. An alias email address can receive email messages normally.

There are 2 different types of alias e-mail addresses:

Alias address as a secondary address of a mailbox.

An alias address can be set up as a secondary address to a mailbox. This mailbox will then receive all messages sent to the alias e-mail address in addition to all messages sent to the actual e-mail address of the mailbox. Alias e-mail addresses set up as secondary addresses to a mailbox can also be used for sending messages by the mailbox owner.

Alias address as forwarding to an external e-mail address

An alias address can also automatically forward all received messages to any other mailbox on the Internet. In this case, sending with the alias address as the sender is not possible.

In addition, this type of an alias address is also not recommended, as the forwarding can lead to a SPAM rating with sensitive mail servers due to the forwarding.

When requesting forwarding of messages to external email addresses, we do not recommend setting up an alias email address for the forwarding address, but rather setting up a mailbox and forwarding using filters.
