Microsoft quirks

Messages to Microsoft disappear sometimes

Unfortunately, sometimes it actually happens that emails simply disappear that you send to a recipient using Office 365 / Hotmail / Outlook / Exchange.

When we receive confirmation of the delivery of an email message to another mail server, the rest is out of our control. Our influence ends after the receiving mail server confirms that it has received the message and will deliver it.

Microsoft is the largest of a very small number of email providers that accept messages and claim to deliver them, but for unknown reasons never do.

If you contact us because this happened to you, we can prove that the message was successfully delivered by sending you the confirmation from our log files. But we can’t do anything about what happens after that.

That’s because Microsoft is the only well-known email provider that is also well-known for accepting email and then not delivering it. They’ve been doing this for years. They won’t admit it, but yet you can clearly see that they are doing it. There are a lot of complaints about it all over the internet.

It doesn’t help, but the pattern is clear. It doesn’t matter if these emails come from Mailix or anywhere else. This happens for no apparent reason, without any indication of error, and without any insight on the part of the receiving provider, who won’t even admit that this is happening.

So while we’ll gladly prove to you that we have done our job, we also want to prepare you for the likelihood that we will have to tell you that we have no way of influencing successful delivery beyond that.
